Power supply - Remote control: To operate a drone/UAS (unmanned aircraft system) with a maximum take-off mass of 250 g or more, a UAS operator registration (subject to a fee), a remote pilot competency certificate (subject to a fee) and a classification of the UAS operation in an operational category are required. UAS operators with a maximum take-off mass of less than 250 g must also register if the UAS is equipped with a sensor for recording personal data, for example a camera, and is not a toy in accordance with Directive 2009/48/EC. Insurance is mandatory for all UAS in Germany. The law requires valid liability insurance. If there is a commercially motivated aspect to the use of the UAS or if the UAS weighs more than 5 kg, an ascent permit is inevitably required. UAS must not enter areas that are protected by special legal requirements and therefore cannot be flown over, including a nearby airport, a military base, densely built-up settlements, crowds of people or, in large cities in particular, larger areas. In addition, people's personal rights must be respected in the same way as with a handheld camera.
